Greetings from LA!

The tour started out fabulously with a very well received and attended gig
at the Knitting Factory on Wednesday night. Shared the stage with 3 other
BMI writers. After the show folks were lining up for cds, handing me $20's
and telling me to keep the change. What's up with THAT? LIke that would
ever happen in New York. Excuse the cynical edge but it's true what they
say. People out here are just....nicer...and richer maybe.

Last night was the Lava Lounge..a dark, very red bar that smelled like the
70s (not sure what the 70's smelled like exactly but...work with me) where I
played to a small but appreciative crowd. Had the day off today. Watched
the Hollywood sign slowly come into view this morning as the haze burned off
from the deck of the house where I'm staying..a fabulous house in Los Feliz
owned by my friend Chuck Papert. We went over to Santa Monica in the late
afternoon to wander the Boardwalk and have a beer as the sun went down. How
LA.

Just got back from Cafe Largo where we saw Jon Brion do his Friday night
thing. The man is f'in briliant , that's all I have to say. A one man show
that incorporates piano, drums, guitar and whatever else happens to be lying
around. Benmont Tench and Grant Lee Phillips joined him for the second half
of the second set and made it all the better. Lifted my slightly melancholy
mood and inspired me to want to play tomorrow night. 7:30 at Genghis Cohen.
Come on out. Tell a friend.

More soon...

Hey kids,

Amy here, remember me? Been quite a spell since I checked in and wrote anything here. Let's see….busy? Just didn't want to? Have checked out and into a desert isle? None of the above. Lazy more like it. And yes, busy.

Biggest news is I'm MAKING A RECORD. Recording dates are tentatively set to the last week of September through mid-October. I've chosen Adam Steinberg as the Producer, he's from Boston and I just love the work that he's done with Todd Thibaud and Barbara Kessler (among many others) in addition to being a huge fan of his guitar playing. Yikes, crazy talented mo-fo he is and I just know he's the right person to do this record with me. You'll see! We will be recording at The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY..up-state, right on the Hudson in the country. I'm happy to be doing this out of the city where we have space to let things breathe and CREATE. Have tentative promises from T-Bone Wolk (bass), Steve Holley (drums), Kenny White (keys) and other surprise guests. Needless to say, I'm excited to finally make the full length record that's been brewing inside me since "She's Not Herself."

I write to you from Boston where I have 2 gigs, one at this amazing quaint little café in Marion, MA, The Hardware Café. Amy Speace and I split the bill from 9 - 11 and were treated like superstars, the most musician friendly venue I've ever played at. John Sares is the owner, just a great guy, he had instruments hanging on the wall for anyone to use, supplied picks and capos, the sound was great. And on and on. Praise The Hardware Café. Check it out via the link.

Playing tonight at Johnny D's with The Waifs, an amazing quartet from Australia that I met on Sunday at the Newport Folk Festival. They're creating a crazy BUZZ here in the States right now; they tour relentlessly, have great accents and play and sing great. O my, I don't seem to articulate at the moment. Great is the only adjective coming to me. Maybe I need that second cup of coffee. Tomorrow night it's on to Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ (one block from my house, think I'll walk over with my guitar already strapped on) where I'm opening for Melissa Ferrick, the show is sold-out so, sorry if you don't already have tix! She's…um…great. And I might not suck either.

THE FROGSVILLE SAGA...... or fear and loathing in Pennsylvania.

Kimball Packard is sleeping on the couch in my living room tonight. LOOOONG story involving a broken down Suburban, a hick bar (Dave said so himself) in Frogsville PA, an Italian bartender named Angelo and a rescue from my cantankerous twit of a boyfriend who wouldn't even stay the night with me upon our return. And after what I'd been through??? I know, I know, most women would say, "How do you get that? A man who drives 6 hours to your aid and doesn't expect, at the very minimum, a hand job? You GO girl!" Maybe I'll pay for it in the next life. As for tomorrow, I'm sleepin' in.

Jenny Bruce, Amy Speace, Kimball and I represented UrbanMuse
at a NACA regional convention on Saturday. We have yet to spring URBANMUSE on the world, for real, but will on Wednesday May 28th at The Bitter End when we do our first group show.

UrbanMuses; Fairchild, Speace, Jenny

Rachael Sage joined us later at The Bullfrog Brewery for an in the round show with Jagoda on percussion and Steve Tannen as our honorary male Muses. Too much fun.

As far as Williamsport PA is concerned (where the conference was), let's just say…LOVE THE FLEXERS! Amy Speace's friends put us up in the lap of luxury. I'm still speechless from the comfort and hospitality we experienced. If that's what THE ROAD is, I want to live there.

It seems the more time you spend away from home, the more life seems like fiction. I could go on about that but I'm trying to get out a mass mailing, take a shower, update my site, mail out cds to recent buyers and eat lunch all at the same time. To be continued.

Hopefully Angelo and Dave don't have access to the internet or I'll be washing dishes in Frogsville PA, married to Dave and expecting his second child in no time. Dave said, "You guys are going to go back to New York and make fun of us with those pictures." He might think that's what I'm doing here, come hunt me down and kidnap me. I guess I can think of worse places to live than Frogsville, PA. Or maybe not. What I said about my boyfriend before? You know I love you honey :-)
